Services

People begin therapy for a number of reasons:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Traumatic events from the distant or recent past
  • Relationship struggles
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Addictions and recovery
  • Eating disorders
  • Attention and hyperactivity issues
  • Anger management
  • Communication skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Divorce transitions
  • Blended family issues
  • The coming out process
  • General family problems
  • Problems with assertiveness

My role then is to help you create the life that you desire.  My style is warm and direct, based in honesty and full of compassion.  Initially, we’ll spend time discussing the struggles that are bringing you to counseling.  Then we can talk about how to experience relief and to create change in these areas.  You may notice some immediate relief just from being able to express these thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment.  The long-term relief comes from finding a sense of mastery in those areas that are currently difficult, confusing, or scary.  This happens step-by-step, as you integrate the ideas and techniques that we cover in session.

Having a good therapeutic relationship can feel like having a solid anchor in your life: it’s a place where you can bring questions about life, about yourself and others.

Sessions are usually 45 minutes in length and weekly, although we can vary this depending on your needs and situation.

I’ve heard a lot of themes from my clients over the years.  Clients have reported that they have learned to do some of the following things:

  • Experience life more fully
  • Deal with and manage previously troubling emotions
  • Change their faulty or negative beliefs about themselves and their world
  • Handle challenging situations with more power and clarity
  • Finally create satisfying relationships
  • Engage the world in a more effective manner
  • Break old patterns and solidify new, healthier patterns
  • Feel differently about past hurts and traumas
  • Have compassion for themselves and their struggles
  • Experience a sense of personal value

If any of these sound appealing to you, just give a call to 847.204.2304 or email markpletcher@comcast.net for a free 10-minute consultation, or to schedule an appointment.
